Why is Gamma Correction Better than Brightness?

Most people resort to a simple 'Brightness' filter when an image is dark. This is a mistake. Brightness adds white linearly to every pixel, turning your rich blacks into a foggy grey.

Gamma Correction (Power Law Transform) is smarter. It applies a non-linear curve that boosts the mid-tones while pinning the black and white points. This means your shadows get brighter, but your blacks stay true black.

2.2 Standard sRGB Gamma

The "Gold Standard" for Web

Perfect for Monitor Calibration

Did you know? Different operating systems utilize different gamma standards. While Mac (pre-2009) used 1.8, the modern web standard (sRGB) is 2.2.

If you are a web designer or photographer, ensuring your images have a gamma value of roughly 2.2 ensures they look consistent on iPhones, Androids, and Windows PCs alike. Our tool is the quickest way to normalize these assets.

Expert FAQs

What is the formula for Gamma Correction?

The formula is V_out = V_in ^ (1 / Gamma). This exponential relationship is why gamma correction is so effective at modelling human vision, which is also non-linear.

How do I fix a photo that is too dark?

Upload it to KyaToolsJi and set the Gamma Slider to around 1.4 to 1.6. This specific range brightens the image significantly without causing the colors to look unnatural or washed out.

Can I batch process images?

Currently, we prioritize single-image precision to ensure perfect histogram mapping. Batch processing features are in development for the Pro version.

Does this work on RAW files?

Browsers cannot natively render RAW files. We recommend converting your RAW photo to a high-quality PNG first, then using our Gamma Tool for the final tonal polish.

Is there a file size limit?

We support optimized processing for images up to 10MB, which covers 99% of web and print graphics needs.
